This necklace caught my eye the other day as it was hanging next to some of my other necklaces for sale.

I had previously glanced at it when I first got it and must have assumed it was plastic. Now because it was hanging up, I noticed that a few of the beads were more cloudy than the others. Closer inspection with a loupe revealed dark inclusions and a web-like interior to the beads.

I'm quite positive it is amber, but I don't know how good the quality is. Anyone know if the cloudiness present in several beads is indicative of the quality? Would this just be called cherry amber? I think the photographs make the beads look a bit more reddish than they actually are.

Last pic is with a blue light.

Amber without much doubt; it crackles on the surface like that sometimes when it gets old. (dehydration etc) Plastic doesn't.

I have some amber with the same sort of crackled surface. Is there any way to restore it or improve the look of it?

Not that I know of, although knowing @kyratango there may well be one. I kind of like it and generally leave bad enough alone.

Beautiful old amber, tie.dye. The colour is in between cherry and cognac amber, I would call it cognac.

@wenna here is something on amber care:

I wouldn't worry too much about the scratches, they show age. Just rub the beads with a drop of oil, as they say in the link. They will get more sheen too, and you'll get happy beads.:)

I have no trick for the age crackling ;), it is considered as patina!;);):hilarious:
For external scratches, if they bother you, I'd use a new polishing cloth (after the necklace had a good wash in mild soapy water, then thorughly let dry) followed by a rub with slightly oiled cloth:)
    As AJ said... happy beads!

Thank you everyone for your input.

I think you got the color right, AnyJewelry, a bit of cherry and a bit of cognac. And thank you for the thoughts on cleaning it a bit AnyJewelry and kyratango. I think a touch of oil would be perfect for these.
