Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi.....digging in a box of dishes I came across this amber colored vinegar cruet my Mother gave me LONG ago when we were starting out.....I THINK she said it might have been her grandmother's, but that part is a bit foggy! Any help you can provide I will be most appreciative of!!!! Oh, and only when looking closely at my pictures did I notice that there is a 'crack' where the handle attaches to the pattern of the cruet....hard to see and harder to photograph!!!! The cruet is 6" tall and 2" across at the base. As always, thank you ALL so much for any help you can offer!!!!!

Can only give you key words:
    Paneled Fine cut
    Paneled Strawberry
    Paneled Diamond

Many glass makers had a pattern of this type.

Thank you Cluttered!!! Will try those, 'cuz I came up with Zip using houndstooth, which I'm pretty sure was wrong but all I could think of!!!!

Nice photo of the crack. That location seems to be prone to getting them. Try fine cut if the other suggestion do not work.

Thanks George.....have tried ALL and still come up with nothing.............it seems to be a 'locked tight' crack if that makes any sense.....no wiggle or anything.....like maybe it happen while making but the maker went ahead and finished it??? I love the cruet and the color anyway!!!!!

The crack happened when someone inadvertently put the piece in a pan of HOT water. the body of the piece expanded faster (it was thinner so didn't take so long to head) than the handle. Glass manufacturers were very careful about not selling things that were cracked, if it cracked in manufacture, they recycled it.

Strictly speaking, it's a shear rather than a crack.

Shear.... as in shear mark? or from a shearing stress? or like a stress crack?

Well, that kind of explains how that happened! Thanks Cherryhill & Obb!
