My personal feeling is that it's from JAPAN, but I may be way off...

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Okay, Mexicans are famous for religious delusions and sightings, but I swear that looks like some kind of mixed-up Nativity scene... kneeling figures, a weirdo manger... some halos around heads?
    Maybe of South American origin?
    Anybody out there feel me?

The bottom looks Japan-ese to me, too...

Try searching Kenzan pottery. I've been researching some similar Japanese pottery and Kenzan keeps coming up in my searches, so I recognize the style.

Mine has the same grey, grainy clay as your's, crackle and is painted in the same color palette, but the painting style is different. It also has chips, but it was cheap and I liked it, so bought it just for the fun of researching it. I don't think I ever tapped it with my nails to see if it clunked or tinged.

I packed it up in a box last year in my annual pre-Thanksgiving, "make the house presentable" frenzy. Pics are on the board here somewhere.

There was a guy on Etsy with lots of similar pottery. User name something like 10000machines.

Does anyone know the purpose of the four holes?
I could imagine using them for hanging, but the picture on the inside seems to rule out many hanging uses. It wouldn't make any sense as a hanging planter, for example.

It might have had a set of those bamboo handles, like a lot of Japanese teapots do. It would have looked like a double handled basket, eh?

Hi Gia - just wanted to let you know I thought Puerto Rican when I first saw it. Then I looked more closely at the bottom. Just to be on the safe side I showed to a friend who knows about Puerto Rican art. He didn't see a Hispanic influence. Thanks for the education on kenzan everybody!
