    Hello my friends

to your attention a beautiful (at least for me) old sports curiosity.
A wooden portrait of a football player, I think, but I can not identify.
On the back was attached with the scotch that cardboard heel you see in the picture, I detached it because it was dangling. In addition there is a signature on the back of the wood and information. The curious fact is that on the heel there is also a written in Japanese or Chinese.
Many elements make me think of a very old sporting heirloom, and I would need your help to identify and date this item, as it could be of much interest to avid sports collectors :)

    height 9.3 cm
    width 9.1 cm

    Thanks for your answers

Very strange, but I don't think it's memorabilia. Looks like someone's idea of "art."

Neither name spring to mind in my Football knowledge.
The one born 18/11/1932 Carlo, if a professional would have began his career around 1950.

Manuel Angel written on the reverse appears to have been born 7/9/67
He was 1.75m tall and weighed 71kg.

I`d be interested to know where or how Anund came by the name Tagnin

    Ah right,
The height 1,75 is correct too, however his playing career ended 1965–1966
I wonder why 7/9/67 is written.

    Hello,
thank you all for helping, summarizing:

ok it could be Carlo Tagnin,
born on 11/18/1932 and also midfielder, just like the heel.

The date 7/9/67 could refer to the year in which he finished his career, as indicated by the Anun figurine, and could also coincide with the date of the realization of the portrait.
"Manuel Angel" could be the author of the portrait, a sort of name of art, in fact we also find a signature of the author.

Mt 1.75 on the back corresponds to the height of Carlo Tagnin.

The mystery of the Japanese writing remains.

But I would have an other question: Carlo Tagnin played in Inter, a blue and black shirt with vertical stripes.

Why, however, in his portrait he is represented with a checkered shirt?

    Thank you.

    I thought that too.

The only teams I know that play in checkered strip are the Croatia national team and 2 Croatian league sides, Dynamo Zagreb and Hadjuk Split.

Plus the Wiki item says he finished his career in 65-66 season with Alessandria.
He played for Inter between 1962-65.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

A general comment, just from examining the photos. There is nothing here that indicates to me that the cardboard tag about Carlo was actually related to the plaque. Somebody attached it with tape. It is not original to the piece. Why they attached it is not apparent.

Written on the back with black marker (?) is a signature, perhaps J Alan or J Atan. under that is "Manuel Angel" and the date in 1967, along with a weight. I don't see any connection between that and the tag about Carlo. One was handwritten on the back and one was printed, used to be part of something else, and precariously taped to the back.

You're right, in fact this heel was attached with the scotch after the realization of the portrait. In fact it was attached to a transparent film that enveloped the wood and was rather dangling.
Perhaps a collector has cataloged it after buying it, who knows where (in Japan?) And then through other sales it has reached Rome, where I bought it at an auction house in a lot.
It may therefore be that this collector wrongly attributed the "portrait" to Carlo Tagnin and that instead the only thing right is written directly on the back, and then that signature and that "Manuel Angel" .... checkered shirt

Jivvy the research is my favorite

Not very helpful, but I think the "artist name" may be "J Asan".

    That's everything I've got.
