I found this old item, about 3 ft tall. and was told it was an old anchor but I've not seen one similar to it. Any idea what this might be. And if it is an anchor any thoughts on a time period? Much appreciated as always. 20190814_181043-1109x1420.jpg 20190814_181111-932x1324.jpg 20190814_181408-1068x1734.jpg

Yeah, I could see it being used as an anchor - homemade of course.

Looks more like for hanging things in an industrial setting.

The sailor man in the house was pretty adamant that this is not an anchor.

He did add this caveat: "people have come up with stupid designs for anchors for a long time. If that is one, it is the stupidest. By far."

Well, when I had a 12 foot rowboat as a kid we used a gallon milk jug full of rocks -

Yes, what something is and how it is used is not always the same thing.

I believe the sailor man's point was that this pictured thing was not designed as an anchor.

I would think something like this was fabricated for a particular application in a shop/industrial/construction setting. Bend some J-hooks and weld them together. Possibly for suspending/lifting cabling or some other type of material.

    My nickel's worth.

It looks like something to hang (wild) game or ham from.
We had one of these at home, minus rust:

They come indifferent shapes, this is a modern one with just two hooks:

Funny, the thing I first though of was for hanging tack, like harnesses, probably because it resembles some grappling hook looking tack hangers. Three feet it pretty big.

Just as an observation, many anchors seem to have pointy ends but if just a shop made thing then anything goes.

I like that idea; and if it were nautical, it looks more like a grappling hook than an anchor; but I like the lifting device idea, might even be a name for that.
It would be good for lifting an engine-block, for example, put some chains on the hooks.
