    Hi All,

    Just looking for more information and maybe a ballpark value. It's approximately 58" x 38" x 18".

I know it's not ancient, but it sounds funny. Thanks ad have a great day!

How sad! That huge hole in the back! :arghh: I was really liking it until I saw that. A pox on whoever did that. (I do hope it wasn't you, DOD.)

Can you tell what material the various figures, birds and plants are made of? And what about that back (the part that was cut) - is that the same as the other sides or has it been replaced by something else?

    Welcome to Antiquers!

Someone used it for one of those big screen TVs unfortunately. With the shelf gone and that hole chopped into the back, value isn't high.

Hi! Thanks for your greeting and response. The back is original, except for the gaping hole, no artwork, just black lacquer.

I did not cut the hole, I found in Goodwill $12.00.

Oriental furniture is not my specialty, I suspected it was worth slightly more than $12.

I was thinking porcelain, mother of pearl? Not really sure. Thanks again!

Think clever that someone repurposed into chic TV cabinet. Unfortunately though, adaption impacts value.

I doubt porcelain, but if parts are very smooth, have no "holes" or pops and are not shiny (like Mother of Pearl is usually shiny) they may some kind of plastic, but not resin.

I think the "96" on that tag is the year of manufacture.

Think pretty new as well and may be Korean rather than Chinese. Also think you did pretty well for $12.00. Will need to replace the back and put some shelves in it to be able to sell it. Maybe a couple hundred in my semi-rural Midwest location if you do those things. May do better in a big city.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you could find somebody who wanted to use it as a TV cabinet again, maybe it would be easy to sell to that person.

    Or do as verybrad suggests.

    Hi,
It was very much in favor to cut holes in the cabinets for electronics. I was against doing that. My one friend bought a wonderful cabinet to place his TV and stuff inside. I pleaded with him not to ruin the cabinet. He finally listened and took the back off and replaced it with a thin plywood backing. When he decided to get rid of the stuff, he took the new backing off and replaced it with the original. We were both so happy.

That was a very perceptive thing to say to your friend, Greg. :):singing:
