    Hi,

I'm new on this forum, I ended up here looking for information on Thai Temple Rubbing and came across this thread full of good information: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/temple-rubbing.29475

I recently bought a rubbing at a yard sale without knowing what it was, I was just intrigued by the object and wanted to know more.

I searched Google Image and Google Lens and started to find information.

The rubbing I bought looks like a lot of other rubbings on the internet, but there are a few things that intrigue me.

First, the paper used doesn't look like rice paper as used for most rubbing, I wonder what kind of material it is?

Secondly, I've searched the internet and I haven't found any other copies that are identical to this one. I mean, if I understood correctly, a rubbing is made from a sculpture on a temple, so the different copies should be identical. But the two rubbings I found are similar, they represent the same scene, but they are not exactly identical. (some elements are missing, but also if you look closely, the drawings are not the same).

    The first one:

    The second one:

Here is the same detail from the three rubbings, where we can see that they are not exactly the same:

Maybe they are rubbings coming from different temple reliefs, representing the same scene?

About the scene, I wonder what it represents?
It looks like rubbings from Wat Pho temple, but I looked at the 152 reliefs on the website https://thaitemplerubbings.com/articles/wat-pho-reliefs, and it doesn't appear.

The main character however looks like Phra Ram or Phra Lak like on this picture: https://thaitemplerubbings.com/temple_rubbings/wat_pho_relief_145.htm

Anyway, I discover the universe of Thai Temple Rubbings, and I am curious about the one I just acquired, so if someone has additional information to bring me, I would be delighted :)
