Currenty on holiday in Malaysia and Singapore. I picked this up in a flea-market in Kuala Lumpur. It needs a bit of fixing (nothing a bit of dent-pressing and frame-bending won't set right), and a damn good polishing, but otherwise, it's in great condition. I just had to have it!! A large-sized four-tier solid brass tiffin carrier. I can't wait to use it :p

I think it's from around 1880-1910, but this style has been made for over 100 years, so it's hard to date accurately.

hahahaha Most people will not have heard or seen these things before.

A tiffin carrier is for carryin your tiffin. Tiffin is an old English slang-word for lunch. It was used very commonly throughout the eastern reaches of the British Empire back in the old days.

Tiffin carriers are still used in Asia tody and you can buy band new modern ones made of stainless steel - bu i have wanted an antique one like this for years and years!! I ca't believe that I finnally managed to get my hands on one!

    Good progress, Shangas!

Personally, I hate, Hate, HATE polishing brass (so I just don't do it!)

    Haha!! Thank you :)

I don't think I'll polish it any further than this. There's no real point and it looks amazing as it is. It looks clean, but it also looks used and aged.

I mean, if I REALLY went to town with the polish, I could probably remove ALL the age marks and stuff, but I'm too lazy to do that. I've removed the heavy tarnish, and the worst of the more stubborn marks, and that'll do, I think.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Nice set-up for a Mexican picnic. Chips 'n' salsa, tortillas, Carne Asada, guacamole. Shangas, you'll need a cooler for the Dos Equis.

Thanks. I thought I should do a video, since it's not always immediately obvious how these antique ones work.
