Did you search carefully for marks, Lorraine? It appears the clock face has text. Would you post a good quality close-up?

Welcome to the forum @lorraine stawicki!!:happy:

Also look around the top & the edges of the base for any kinds of marks or signatures.

A picture of the back of the clock might also help determine the type of clock.

@lorraine stawicki how tall is it? Does it have any markings or signature cast into it that you could find? What does the bottom look like? I cannot tell it is actually "antique" from that one shot, and I would think maybe not, from the appearance of the face of the clock that I cannot quite see very well either. Others want to know more about the clock too, this will help to date it. It may be a later bronze, decorative value only, but we cannot see without more details..

Thank you so much for the additional pictures. None of it looks older than 2000s to me. Please wait for the opinions of other members.

Jacob Petit was easy to find:
    Petit, Jacob, French 1797-1868

The signature in the cast appears to have '09 at end. Could have been cast in 1809 as that fits within the lifetime of Jacob Petit. Who, most likely, was NOT the bronze base caster (before someone sees fit to point that out to me... :mask:)
Still searching for him/her, the originator of the cast that is...@i-need-help, anything?

I don't think that is an 09 at the end of the signature. I think the siggie reads Bruchon. Now if it is a real Emile Bruchon or not I have no earthly idea & would not even hazard a guess.

I don't know if it's old, but it looks better than the very similar one I linked to earlier, which just looks like an inferior reproduction in comparison to me.

It seems odd that these clock faces are signed by famed porcelain painter Jacob Petit, Paris, 1892 when he had passed away some 30 years previously. Perhaps the studio established with his name had continued on after his death.

Emile Bruchon's most noted period was from about 1880-1910. If the 1892 date applies, then the O.P.'s clock fits neatly therein. The piece could have been cast or re-cast by 1910.

I can find nothing to corroborate the Junghans story, other than Junghans had an elephant clock, (with a different clock)

BTW, Welcome to the Forum. Sorry for the loss of your sister.

You may want to have this checked out by someone knowledgeable about antiques of this nature who can look at it in person as it may or may not be a valuable item. However, if the person giving you their opinion offers to buy it, regardless if you think the amount is a good price, politely decline until you can get it checked out further.

I do not know where you are located, but many auction houses will give you an opinion &/or estimate. You may want to look into that if you are indeed interested in selling the piece.

I think this is a fantasy piece. Imported bronzes were popular from the 1990s, well into the 2000s. The workmanship on the 2 women holding the clock, isn't what I would expect to see from an antique piece. Nor does the finish look antique to me. As for the clock, well, it's just in too good of condition, but I am not a clock specialist.
