Found this over the weekend for cheap-finally found an older one ! I'm guessin' 1900-1920,but haven't done any research on it yet. It's a litho globe w/ normal wear and tear, and the base & ring are fire-gilded cast iron. It's 21 inches tall & heavy.
Any more accurate ideas about dating ?
    Thanks All !

There was a guy called Tom on the old eBay coin forum from GA, who dealt in Globes
If you look at his Avatar you will see what I mean.

If you can try to contact him through eBay, I'm sure he would oblige.

I think before 1922 as Ukraine is a separate country on the map before it was absorbed into the USSR.
    No sign of Israel

These are fun (or maddening??) to date from all the geographical and naming changes. I like the stand on this one.

Re 'dating'-As we all know, many older pieces have dated patent marks on them, but from the tiny amount I've read-not all globes (yes-it seems insane considering wars, border changes)-but seems true for some.
PS-Def a fun piece of set dressing for one's personal 'Explorer's Club' Library !

One way to confirm if it’s a reproduction is to check if it has the “Gulf of America” on it.:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

‘sorry, couldn’t resist the pun. But seriously, what a great find. Personally I could spend several hours enjoying that. I always have enjoyed the history of maps and how they have changed over the years.

A fascinating video if you have the time, else jump foward to the 1900’s. Best viewed on a desktop or tablet.

    again, great find…

A huge thanks Marco-A lucky day at the sale. The loss of graphics occurred when the seller yanked-off the price tag ! But,I'd rather they sold it to me than not.
It's funny considering how many Globes were sold between 1900-1930,how come I haven't found one (cheap) before ?
    PS-Next goal,a cheap intact functioning Orrery !

Good luck with that one. It would be a grand prize these days. I haven’t laid my eye on one in person since my school days. With all do respect, if you come across one, you better hope I don’t show up first. ;)

Yugoslavia is there, and that's no earlier than 1918.

Marco-I can't even recall seeing one in school (and I'm old !). Strange, because Trippensee must've made thousands of them for schools thru the years-tho you can spot em a mile away.
    MOS-Thanks, sounds like it's somewhere between 1918-1930 ?

1921 treaty of Riga, you have the interwar polish-soviet border.
1930 there is the Constantinopole name change.
So between that..maybe a year or so more to actually take effect 1922-1931.

Thanks Gigi-That sounds like a sound date range.I just scanned 3-4 (260 listings pr pg) pages of Sold Ebay Listings and found a number of Hammond's 'Terrestrial' Globes, but so far no Hammond's 'Physical' Globes from our date period.
Busy Emailing dealers,et all-hopefully will have answers soon. I'll tell you all that from past experience, what you hope might be a rarity-most of the time won't buy you a cup of coffee !
But as all of Us 70 year-old teenagers know-hope springs eternal & also keeps us upright !
