I am considering purchasing this desk. I have been told that it is an Antique German manufactured piece. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Wow, is that different!!!! At first glance I thought a unique bench!!! Beautiful inlay!!!!! I've never seen a desk with such smoothly rounded work!! Is there any way you can show the back and under side.....I know others will want to know!!! Did the seller give you an age on this piece??? And that looks like leather insert on the 'desk top'?? Am I also seeing some 'dings' and 'chips' around the top and left??
Wait for Brad, the furniture Guru to show up!!!!! OH, and WELCOME!!!!!

My immediate thought was Hollywood Regency. An antique look without being all that old, though probably expensive in its day.

It is quite possible I am wrong, that's just my hunch.

I have to bear in mind that some people call things younger than I am, antiques. :-(

    Is that how it's done?
My feet don't fit on fences or power lines so I don't do that. :p
And I'm sure there are far more than 140 characters using that silliness. ;)

The style is more French but the inlay does look like it could be more Germanic. If seeing this without any information first, I might think Dutch or Belgian. Really hard to tell age from these pics. Could be antique but impossible to tell.

Thanks for the input. Here are photos of the back and leather top. I am probably going to pick it up today. Is there anything i should look for specifically when reviewing the desk? Sorry to be such a newbie on this.

Look to see how it is constructed. Plywood or particle board mean it is newer. A solid wood hand planed chamfered drawer bottom is a good sign, as are hand-cut dovetails.

What a lovely piece! I think more Italian, but thats just a guess. The brasses make me think newer, possibly 60s-70s,maybe even 80s.Again,thats just a guess.

If newer, Italian is a very good bet.
