Hi all, I just found you all while searching for answers. My young daughter discovered this doll in an op shop and I've been trying to find out about her. She has a porcelain head/shoulders and lower arms and hands but the rest is cloth. On the back of her neck 'germany' and '7/10' is written along with a symbol.

I come from a long line of antique lovers and if anyone has any information on her I'd be so grateful.

    Thank you!

    Hi Antique! Welcome to Antiquers!

The head of your doll is a bisque shoulder head.

Porcelain heads refer to China head dolls.

I don't recognize the symbol......perhaps Christmas Joy will.

I'll look through my Coleman's encyclopedia.

    Is a better photo possible?

    Also is she without hands?

The one on the right facing us, looks to have been broken, and the arm looks very white.

Thank you, that looks like it! Thank you too for the distinction between porcelain and bisque, I didn't know.

She's not in the best condition, one hand is missing and she has a hole in her head which is probably why she was in the op shop. It looks like her hands were painted but i'm not 100% sure. I'll try for some better photos too.

Is there a way I can date her accurately? Her clothing ?

    Hi Antique!

The last photo of the hand appears to be composition or wood.

    Hole in the head?

    A large opening??

That would be normal. If that is the one you are referring to, then originally it had a "pate" to cover it. It would be made of a stiff material......perhaps cardboard. It would help the wig to fit better on the head and protect from dust, etc.

Your doll has an open mouth, which is later than a closed one.

Her age would be turn of the century.

You could research when Cuno used that symbol.

The clothes are not original to the doll.

From your other photo showing the other arm sans hand, it looks like it's either bisque or porcelain. So it seems the doll has been altered greatly.

COD made beautiful half dolls. Called such because they were made to go on pincushions, or on top of a clothes brush, etc.

Do the eyes close or are they stationary? Just curious.

    She has a lovely face.

Sorry, that's Dressel & Kister that made the half dolls.....
