Wasn't sure what category to put this under so sorry if this is the wrong one. But on this one I am just more curious than anything on why it locks on both sides. And what I mean by that is the way it works you could either lock someone or something either inside or out. If the lock is engaged on either side of the knob the other side won't open. Am I the only one that finds this strange?

My guess would be a connecting door like in a hotel suite.

Oh now that makes sense thank you. Never even considered the fact that they had hotels with connecting doors that long ago.

Bathrooms were often put in between two bedrooms at the turn of the century.

    Another possibility, boarding house.

I have a turn of the century house. One bedroom is off the kitchen. The door locks from the kitchen side. The bedroom has it's own entrance.

I saw one on Ebay for $150, but you can only get what someone wants to pay. It seems to be in good condition.
