    Hello
Bought this saber recently, but have no idea if it is authentic or a replica.
It seems old, but I don't know for sure.
    Can anyone help?

Was told it is a late XIX century military saber, not for show, but for use in the battlefield.

Supossedly it is a Portuguese officer Saber, but have no further information about it beside that.

If it was issued by some countries Military....then they had a contract with a maker to produce thousands..... and there would be foundry marks , inspection marks , date marks.......some marks....on every blade !
& likely marks on the handle as well.
Those markings would make it easier to narrow down where the weapon was made...and for whom.
So far....I'm not finding any matches,,,,,,,,,:(:(

    Thank you for your reply.
Yes, it is strange not to have any markings.
However the balance of the blade is correct, 4 inches from tilt, measures are correct, weight seems correct, the handle in smooth wood seems correct for late XIX I think, overall it seems original.

    I'm in Portugal
I got it through an online store, it sells antiques and has a good profile. I met the seller personally before buying to see the saber.
I will post more photos of hilt and ricasso soon.

    Thank you !
Now...I'm having trouble with the blade that looks like it was cast , not forged....and the decoration on the handle , cast into the handle is unlike any Military service weapon I know of..!
Also the cast handle looks strange to me.....

I'll look around some more....& wait to see if others see what I see !!

Blade looks pitted and corroded, then cleaned, as does the Guard, perhaps someone found it and tried to "restore" it ....that is my take on it ........ does not strike me as being one of those INDIA copies........

OK guys, here's what I've found....on enlargement....and not very clear.....OP would probably see more with a loupe.....to me it looks like printing.....I leave it up to you to judge.....one larger set inside the OVAL, 2 small sets inside the RECTANGLE.....
if you need me to, I can use arrows to point out further.......
