    Hi everybody,

    Guess who's back!! :p
I haven't been posting anything here for months now because I was just too busy and too lazy, and that's not really a good combination. :p

I have a few things that I would like to know more about. I will post them separately. Despite the fact that today's King's Day in the Netherlands, I did not buy them today;)

The first item is a perfume bottle / scent bottle.

    Made of green glass.
(Is there a special name for this? I know that Ruby Glass, or Cranberry Glass is very common in red)

It is a beautiful bottle, with a portrait, which I assume is hand-painted.
I only bought it last night, so haven't received it yet.

The combination of the protrait, and the golden filigree (is that the right term in this case?) reminds me of bottles that I have seen before, made by Moser.

I think it dates from the 19th century, or possibly early 20th century.

My question is whether someone is familiar with this.
I have been able to find some bottles online. Most of the links did not work anymore, so I could not view any prices.

I have just found one bottle with price. But it has a silver cap. https://www.bluecherryantiques.co.u...e-bottle-with-silver-mount-portrait-code-8021

I know the cap of my bottle is probably not the original.
Would it also come with a silver cap? Or just a green glass one?

All info is of course welcome :)

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards,
    R. Antonis

I think the gold you are calling filigree would be called meander.

It is a lovely bottle. A beautiful pensive look on the face of the child. Probably after a well-known painting?

Filigree is a fine decoration in metal. From 'fil et grain', thread and grain, or wire and granules (little balls), the two components used to create filigree.

I thought about the portrait possibily being a "real person" but I kind of dismissed that thought, because I didn't expect it to be.

I do think your bottle is lovely, but I do have my concerns. Mainly about the bottle showing SO much wear, yet there is NO WEAR showing on the 'cameo' image.....are they customarily attached to the bottles or are they supposed to be hand painted on???? Part of my concerns about yours (and a couple of the links you posted as well) are that the gold around the 'cameo' seems to be behind the image and it seems like the 'cameo' has been overlaid on top. If THAT is how they do it, then you are GOOD AS GOLD!!!!! I easily could be totally off base, but that is MY concern......as I said at the beginning.....I still think it's a VERY nice bottle!!!!

Edit: Also, in the 2nd and 4th images down (sideways views...both showing looking like the 'cameo' image is raised.......

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, it looks like that part might have been attached separately?

Although I haven't received the bottle yet. I have been able to find more of these bottles yesterday. And I did come across one or more bottles, where the description said that the portrait was painted overlay glass.

I'm going to sleep right now, but I will post the list of bottles that I found yesterday. I believe there's at least one amongst them.

If I don't forget, which I probably will... I will check it out once more ;) But I'm a 100% sure I saw it before.
    Thanks anyways :)

I'm always happy to learn something new and I had always thought the 'cameo' part on those bottles was painted right on....not a separate "disc".....so, now I know better!!!!! Win for you.....win for me!!:):)

  16. Hi everyone, I'm Chris from Blue Cherry Antiques.

I wondered why I'd got a lot of traffic from a random source, and tracked it back to here - that's my item website in the OP.

Thought I would fill in a few blanks for people since I'm here:

The style of gilding is called vermiform (wormlike).

The painting is likely a commission and so of someone's child. More often than not these are family portraits, and of course you would need to be reasonably wealthy to order one.

Is it Moser? It's very hard to say, unless you find one with the exact gilding etc with the Moser signature it is going to be very hard to prove. They were made by many factories, so most won't be Moser.

The gilt wear - this is quite normal, the gilding can be very soft compared to the enamels fired into the vignette so they wear first.

The stopper - as the collar is gilded it would not have had a silver cap. Originally it would have had a facet cut stopper, usually in the same colour as the body, and this would be gilded in the same style.

    Hope that helps you all.

You definately filled in some blanks. I would otherwise probably never find out what the gold pattern is called. Also the portrait probably being commissioned is nice to know. Thank you very much for sharing!
