Antique Metal Middle East Container/Stand

    That’s what I’m finding. You should have some good search terms to verify. By all means, that’s the best thing to do. Further investigate. :)

    They call it that, then go on to say 'with a flared open top for hot charcoal' so sounds like it might be more of a brazier. Something this big burning incense would smother you, I should think.

    Note the lot was passed; it didn't sell.

    Yes, a souvenir of Mecca. Incense is used throughout the Middle East for a welcoming ritual.
    People who go on the Hajj (pilgrimage) bring back souvenirs for loved ones. Mecca and Hajj souvenirs mean as much as for instance souvenirs from Rome, the Holy Land, or Varanasi (Hindu).
    It is not antique btw, it has just been exposed to humidity. Kept in a shed, maybe. My guess is 1970s.
