desk1.jpg desk3.jpg I bought this desk for 75.00 dollars at an antique store. It was falling apart, needed refinishing and there was a large chunk out of the veneer where you write. I refinished it, replaced the mahogany veneer on the desktop and reglued it. There were no screws or nails in just wood pegs and the old glue. On the strike plate for the lock, I found a patent date of 1884. I would love to know the style and rough date that it could have been made. I did have to replace the key hole estoushion (sp)as it was missing.

Really no style other than Victorian. See some slight French influence with the feet and carving on the sides. Think an 1890-1900 date about right.

Yes, very nice restoration...1900 seems about right to me as well.

I hope I thanked everyone for your welcome and your kind comments.I didn't plan on bringing home a desk that day......at 73 I'm really not into doing large projects anymore. ....but it looked so sad sitting there, and I could almost here it begging me to take it home....I caved.....

I probably would have done the same thing...as my basement can attest.
