    I gotta hand it to ya, Bosko...that's quite a story!
    I note the large Japanese fan, an' what looks like 2 Chinese lanterns...imagine what a lot of s**t those ladies had to slog through just to get a high-street address to hawk their wares!

    True Whit-It's a story worth studying.Might make a good movie too-especially if you could shoe horn in a cameo appearance by Jane Austen ! Alas,the immortal Jane had been dead for 70 years during the heyday of Petticoat Row,but that's never stifled a script writer before.

    Van Gogh & Singer Sargent and other Impressionists & Post-Impressionists were knocked out by Japanese & Chinese Art-as were the trendy and feisty retailer ladies of Victorian Nantucket.

    I like a ridiculous amount of Sargent's work but whewwww that piece is up there. Might be the favorite. He took so long to get it right and it shows.

    Run by women, not owned by women. An important distinction.

    Why would it be a limerick? I don't recall seeing a poetic facet to his oft' erudite contributions.

    I must lead a sheltered life...having never once experienced Nantucket in limerick form**.
    @komokwa, have at it!
    EDIT: **At least as well as my alleged memory serves.

    Hey guys, I'm not on this thread ..... it's a nice pitcher.... but I'm no Pottie.:wideyed:

    @wlwhittier ...my poetic side is well known , but hasn't been seen here in quite a while.:cool:

    @Marote ... Nantucket..? the thread seems to follow an artistic vein.... so my ribald sense of humour doesn't seem warranted here....:yawn:

    Sorry if I disappoint .... :(
