    Pic1.JPG Pic2.JPG Pic3.JPG Pic4.JPG Pic5.JPG Hi,

I wondered if anyone could please help me with information on this table? We inherited it and know very little about it.

It's a darker wood, looks like parts of hard carved and the cuts look to be hand sawn. It came from Vancouver Canada but I don't know its original origin.

Any help is appreciated! I have attached some photos.

    Thank you!

Sorry I should include that the table is 27" wide and an octagonal shape and 22" high.

But Leaderfoot is in Scotland, is it not?

I have no idea. It's from my wife's family, which one side is Italian and I believe the other side is from the UK, possibly Scotland.

A quick internet search will tell you that Leaderfoot is a hamlet near Melrose in the Scottish Borders. That would explain why the maker of your table practiced three trades, including that of undertaker.

It's likely linked to her mothers family I would assume. Do you have any advice on identifying the age?

The label looks Victorian. And there was a Francis Burnet working as a joiner in Leaderfoot in 1886 according to Slater's Royal National Commercial Directory of Scotland. Someone will be along to take a look at your table and see if it could have been made around that date.

Would speculate that the table was made ca. 1880 give or take. Amazing that it still has the paper label! It likely functioned as a center table; it would definitely benefit from refinishing.

Agree with an 1880 date or slightly earlier. Style is Renaissance Revival. Needs some work but should be repairable. The biggest problem is the split but someone who knows how to glue this could make pretty short work of it. The finish work looks to be pretty minimal.

It's not actually a split, I can see a dowel in there, I think it just need to be clamped and reglued, it's at a part where the boards meet.

I'm really at a loss as to what to do with this. We were going to sell it as we do not collect antiques and do not have a place for this. Am I allowed to ask what value it might hold if we fix it?

Thanks again this is all very interesting, we knew it was old but not this old!

No sentimental value at all? It's been in your wife's family for almost 150 years, hasn't it?

Honestly I'm not sure what will happen with it. It's not that I don't think it's interesting, I do, but my wife wanted to get rid of it as there is no place to put it and she didn't like the style.

That being said maybe now that she knows how old it really is she will keep it. Totally her call. I'm just getting information and options for her as this thing was actually going to be given away believe it or not! Shooting the messenger :)

    Thanks again..

Well, if given to another family member then no problem there! It's a nice piece that can blend in with other styles.
