    Look at the engraving,you should be able to see the actual cuts and in the photo the edges look rounded.

    Looks like a very worn 1860 Liberty Silver dollar, my guess is someone made a commemorative coin from a well worn 1860.

    It's a "Sitting Liberty" coin.
    Looks like someone smoothed down the back and put CSA - Confederate States of America on the back - along with a name, and regiment.

    As a Civil War item - if you can figure out the person, this may have some value to it.

    @daveydempsey for coin info

    I bet it would have some collector value. At worse junk silver pricing. It's a nice piece history, I'd hang on to it.

    I looked up the name.William Dorsey Pender(February 6, 1834 – July 18, 1863) was a General in theConfederacyin theAmerican Civil Warserving as a Brigade and Divisional commander. Promoted to brigadier on the battlefield at Seven Pines by Confederate President Jefferson Davis in person, he fought in the Seven Days Battles and at Second Manassas, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, being wounded in each of these engagements. Lee rated him as one of the most promising of his commanders,[1]promoting him to major general at twenty-nine. Pender was mortally wounded on the second day ofGettysburg.

    The same name is mentioned in INH's link of known fakes.
    Lt. Col. Dorsey Pender, 1st North Carolina Regiment.
    It probably has no silver content either.

    Well you learn something everyday! Not my area of expertise but I won't have even considered this being a fake. Good info Davey.
