Okay so I have a collection of carnival also, I sold a lot over the years just because I got tired of cleaning it. So I am down to about 70 pieces. HeHe. But anyways I have this GORGEOUS Wreathed Cherry bowl. But the thing is the base is black. And I mean black. Not Dark Blue not Black Amethyst. Just straight Black. I have never herd of such before.

Even with a bright light shining through it still looks black? I have some carnival pieces I inherited, but I don't think any have a black base.

I know I have a couple of pieces of "black" early pressed glass that's actually dark purple when I look at it with a light shining through from the back.

Interesting that it truly is black. One of the variety of new things I learned today. :)

If it is,it's the blackest black Amethyst in the world. It definitely has me baffled.

Makers called this black/ebony but dealers trying it up their prices noticed that some of the saturated colorant as amethyst used that to increase the price. I have seen black glass made with saturated colorants for glue, red and green still all only opaque black glass.

Amber, too. You can tell the color if your piece is a shard with thin edges.

However, don't break it in the interest of science!
