    Hi all
I am heading out to some sales, but before I go I wanted to ask those who know about the Swedish Dala Horses, are the ones with the black background considered less or more collectible or the same as the orange/red ones?

I think Judy knows about these, perhaps can enlighten me.:)

BBL, the estate sales are calling my name.
    Thanks much for any help

The orange is usually more popular - sells better. Size matters for value - big is more $. Labels sell - even when it means newer.

    Hi Pearl!

I am just now seeing this new thread on dalas.

While this thread was being started, I was at the Scandinavian Fair where lots of Swedish items are offered for sale each year.

Several dalahests were offered as they usually are. I didn't stop to peek as I have so many and plan on visiting the factory next May where I'm sure I will be buying another!

I did notice the table when it was time to leave, and most of them had been sold.....

However I did notice this year the offering included more of the smaller size..... and as Terry said, the dollar amount goes up according to the size.

I have been very fortunate to have purchased many at local sales for very little money.

I have a few passed on to me from my family, but honestly I can tell you which ones they are.

The orange is the most popular and common. I have a couple of the blue ones, and some white ones also.

It doesn't matter to me if there is a maker's label or not. I recognize them at a moment's glance if they are real dalas or not, and don't need a label.

The antique ones are quite expensive. They have a much larger neck.

It sounds the sale was yesterday, so I am wondering if you did buy any or not.

Hi Judy, thanks so much for stopping in and helping.

Yes, I did pick up the black dala and if memory serves me correctly, it does have a label. No pics as of yet.

I just came back from an estate sale now, and am thawing out after standing in line.

Thanks again for your help, sounds like the fair was fun!

    Hi Pearl!

I'm curious about the sale......were they advertising dalas?

I've never seen an ad around here for them, so I'm just curious.

Was it an estate or yard sale?

I know what you mean about being frozen after waiting in line in the cold for the opening.

I hope you got something great!

Is you dala really black or just dark blue? The black ones are even harder to come by.

I go to this Fair every year. Besides merchandise they offer Swedish baked goods....cardomom coffee bread, limpa (SwedishRye) and marzipan cakes which are to die for!

They even serve us open face Sill sandwiches served on Swedish rye....just like MorMor used to make :cat:

    (Sill is pickled herring).

    Hi Judy,
no they didn't advertise the Dala Judy.

It was an estate sale today. Not much to find there at all. The prices were just too high.

No sale I have ever been to has mentioned dalas in the ads. I think they are somewhat of a sleeper item here and I hope it stays that way so I can grab them first. LOL I have found a few orange ones over the years at my thrift shop too.

There was just one dala that I got and if my eyes are working right, it looks to be black. I will have to double check on it.

I love marzipan, the only kind I have had is the ones they make to look like fruits.
    Yummy!

And pickled herring, oh my, we used to have that at every holiday table as an appetizer. Ours was in sour cream sauce, but they make it in wine sauce or just plain. Your food sound delicious....

Geez, this is making me hungry, I think it is time to think about lunch
    Thanks again.:p

I've seen the marzipan "fruits", but this is in the form of little cakes, with white icing on top. Anyone who likes almond would love these.

I think the herring in sour cream is more traditionally Jewish, but I could be wrong.

I've had it that way too......I love it either style.

At the shop and we have customers, but no sales as yet.....

    Day is young tho.:cat:
