Thanks. Picked it up for my billiards room for $150. Its worth that to me but I like to know the history ( if there is any ) on any piece I buy.

OK 912...then help us help you !!
$150 looks to be a fair price...
    but ..
    US or Can.....where R ya ?
    Did u get it from a dealer...yard sale auction.....in town..or somewhere else.

Can you please go back & edit your post ...to click on FULL IMAGE...so those on their phones can see the chair....
& while you're at it.....we'll need a close up of the carving....the feet.....the rear...and underside along with any markings or tags....
Even a good shot of the upolstery fabric will help us to see if it's original to the item.
Anything else that you know......will help us to tell you what we know !!
    :)......;);)

Brad will ID it correctly; wife sez it is something like Empire Revival made late 19th C., Sale price of one like this depends a lot on where sold, as you need customers with specific tastes. Many would find this scary ugly, but it is worth what you paid for it.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like the way it looks ... don't know the dimensions, but don't the arm rests look awfully high?

Think it is transitional, Federal to Empire. This would probably put it to about 1830 give or take. Usually don't see those exaggerated arms on a chair but more common on a sofa. There are a few out there so not unheard of.

Wow, what a unique chair, and looks to be in great condition!!!!!! Not trying to be funny or anything, but looks kind of like it's meant to keep someone's arms inside or keep someone calm, doesn't it????

Thanks for the input! Does anyone know how much to value this chair?

unless you can find others that have sold in the past couple of years....I'd say, maybe 3 times what you paid..
But...I have nothing to base that on.....other than you really like the chair !!!
PS....the ruby Lane chair is gaudy....while yours is elegant.....but the seller can ASK whatever the fcuk they want.....till it sells for whatever someone is willing to pay for it !!

    ( oh....& Fcuk....is a perfume !!)
