My husband and I recently found this little cabinet and we really are not sure what it is or how much it’s worth. I don't see any stamps with a brand name etc...Any ideas? IMG_4120.JPG IMG_4121.JPG IMG_4122.JPG IMG_4123.JPG

    Hi Crystal! Welcome to Antiquers.

It's so clean, it could be a recent import.

The furniture people will be along to offer their opinions which, hopefully, will be different from mine.:cat:

It is a filing cabinet or architects cabinet. They are sought after.
I think it has some age, I don't know how much, I'll leave that up to the furniture people.

Fom the size, it's meant for coins or small objects such as specimens. I agree it is fairly new, it's a repro of an old style.

I would keep fans in it, of course. But that's just me.:)

It looks like a thread spool cabinet to me, although the more collectible ones have advertising on the drawer plaques.

Reproduction of a spool cabinet …. Here is a real one.

It may be a replica of a Spool Cabinet, found on the counters of drygoods stores back in Victorian/Edwardian days. They usually had glass panels in the facing of the drawers with the advertising of the thread supplier (usually Coates) in decal form. I have a feeling that the thread mfgs. supplied them to the merchant in exchange for carrying their brand.
The original thread cabinets are highly prized by collectors to stash jewelry/coins/stamps.

The OP's looks like one from the 1970s instead of the 1870s. Maybe early 80s. That's what those knobs and the finish say to me, at least.

I was thinking 1970s as well, maybe 60s, but I am not a furniture specialist.

It may be a coin-collecting cabinet, as previously suggested. There was one listed for sale on my local FB marketplace recently with inserts to hold the coins. My guess: no older than 1970s.
Yours has only 3 drawers, however, so it wouldn't hold many coins, could be for some other small collectible. I'm sure it's a handy sort of cabinet, regardless of the maker's original intent for use.

Yep, is. Small antique cabinets are highly collectible and some can get pricey in a hurry, like spice, sugar or seed cabs for instance. A repro i would guess would not be much value.

Looks very much hand made as my Father and I have made many things like that using the white porcelain knobs that you can use for shutters , cabinet knobs, etc.... Hand made as in built at home with hand tools / power tools. I see no Ikea particle board, is that correct ???? Thin mahogany plywood on the back ?? Great for coins . watches , etc ....
