I found this at my local thrift store today. It looks old, has metal or tin trim all around AND it had the keys to it's lock inside it and the lock works!

Can anyone tell me anything about it; age? where itis from? what should I call it when selling?

And what is the knob(?) piece of wood sticking out of the back?

    It measures 20" wide x 9.5" high x 12" deep

PS - The little sticker in the corner on the bottom looks like a inventory? or a code? (it has 9-121 at top & along bottom the letters OS (then what looks like a backwards letter C with a line through it) then the letters JJ

Thank you for any help with this!

Looks pretty new to me. The wood is all the same color.

It's dark to look old? It looks like some kind of semi - hardwood but who knows what? I'd vote newer made to look old also....

3rd & 5th photo show best - wood has a lot of small pinholes?

Looks Indian to me, I used to see this kind of item in boutique decorator shops in the late 80's and early 90's. Probably mango wood from the looks.

Might be evidence of previous woodworm.

    Ditto.:nailbiting:
Tap the wood to see if saw dust falls out.

Possibly done with a drill just for looks.

India. Fairly new. I've seen a lot of real Indian antiques recently and once you have, you can tell the difference immediately.
