Any info on this piece?

Looks like its made out of a bull horn, it separates into two pieces and has that other smaller piece as well that appears to go inside.

 

You probably know it's a powder horn and I think the smaller piece that fits inside would be to measure the powder for a load.
Interesting that it's inscribed with 2 different names.

 

I just noticed that there are 2 names and a monogram...maybe the owner had friends carve symbols or maybe 2 friends carved a presentation piece to the owner.

 

Or a second owner inherited the piece and added his own moniker................

 

Seems weird to be the work of two people, horse and bull look like they were done by same people. FEK appeared to sign twice. Ferrell means Man of Valor, but not sure what the L would be. I don't know if that space would've been left open either for someone else to add it at a later time.

 

I haven't seen (nor could I find) a layered style carved horn like that...

It's eye-catching.
