I have a sculpture that I was told is very old and is very cold to the touch. If anyone has seen a similar piece or can give me any information please educate me. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. 20180130_131137.jpg

I don't think the stand will have any markings. However, the stone may have markings on the bottom or lower backside.

It looks nicer than the run of the mill soapstone carvings. May in fact be another stone such as jade.
I think this could be from the late 1800s or earlier.

Are you in an area that has:
    good museums?
    Lapidary store?
Jeweler who is also a gemologist?

I will take a photo of the bottom and back of both sculpture and stand. I have heard that soapstone feels warmer and soft similar to a bar of soap, this is smooth feeling but very cold. I live in Seattle, Washington which I know has several museums. What type of museum would you suggest and do you happen to know how to go about bringing something in for them to look at.

If you go on Wikilink I posted, then click the highlighted word agalmagolite, it takes you to another page, saying basically it’s soapstone.
But maybe someone else knows for sure.

Scientist were arguing about it more than a hundred years ago ..... https://books.google.com/books?id=k...ATABegQIBxAB#v=onepage&q=agalmatolite&f=false

The Chinese also call at least a dozen different minerals "jade", without actually testing the stone no one say what it is.

Anything posted on a "wiki" page is questionable to start with.
