I’m trying to identify an old buttonhole lapel pin I have, so far without success. Can anyone help me date this style of “buttonhole” pin, or recognize the maker’s mark on the back? I believe this small pin, about the size of a dime, has an American Civil War connection, so dating it to that time or just after would be a step in the right direction.

Hmmm, good suggestion. Could be! I thought the dark blue shape was a kepi uniform cap, like this...

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

And I thought that was some sort of Goal Post the HC was sitting in....surrounded by the C.......AND yet, you could EASILY be right about the Kepi!

Can you get a LESS fuzzy image of the back marks???

EDIT: Looks like 2 acorns butted together.....not sure of marks in each....

You could be right,my high school's name was Spanish for " Hot breath of Satan" and the symbol was a middle east Genie.

H.S. does typically stand for High School.

Here is a clearer image of the back mark. Letters appear to be IU:
