Picked up this little sterling Robbins Co. pin, couldn't pass up my initial with a cute pooch that reminded me of my Preshy. Measures about 1.5" x 1", heavy at 9 grams, with the matte finish I associate with military pins (Robbins made a lot of emblematic jewelry), and my first thought was maybe something like a squadron pin, but am very open to other suggestions...

That seems a good possibility, but no luck so far, still looking...

I think it's a bear - Chicago Cubs perhaps. - also could be Chicago Bears - looks more like the Bears "C" logo.

The "C" is correct for vintage Chicago Cubs.

Heh, I lived in Chicago as a kid, so definitely related to that 'C' (this one has a small top-stroke), but I've also seen similar font on numerous engraved pieces of silver, as well as in old advertising - and that is a canid of some kind, looks like a dog to me, could certainly be something else, but it's not a bear (has good-sized pointy ears and a tail visible at lower right). Really appreciate all your thoughts, guys...

Here are a couple of monograms from a 1912 lettering book with similar 'C's:

Thanks, she is sort of adorable, and very bratty, a retired breeder for some woman producing snow-dogs with fancy coloring (why do we need more dog breeds?) - her name is Precious and I do still use it occasionally, but it's such a 'little dog' name, so shortened it to Presh or Preshy. That pic was after the girl I got her from had stripped her coat for summer, she now has a massively fluffy coat and tail - looks kind of like a marbleized little Samoyed...

Would take a pic, but it was hot today, so she thoughtfully dug a giant hole in the damp soil under my orchids and is a filthy little pig - but here is her too-cute puppy pic from the breeder's site (she was six when I got her, will be seven in March):

The tail escaped me! Definitely not a bear in that case!

Only have about 30 now, several phals and mini phals, a few cattleyas and vandas, and an assortment of others that I'd have to check the tags (most are 'rescues'):

Eh, crummy pics, the black & white looked more clear on my phone, but washed out on my laptop. Maybe this is better:

Thanks, Judy! I don't do much with the orchids, the vandas have free-hanging roots and the others are all in bark, so there's no root-rot (the reason for the 'rescues'), I water them, try to keep the surrounding branches trimmed for proper light, feed them every once in a while, and throw a blanket over them if it gets into the lower 40s. The flowers in the first pic are starting to fade, but the plant has another little flower spike, and five other nearby plants have spikes coming up (the old guy of the bunch has four!).

Presh's eyes are interesting, both parti-colored, one blue with amber bits, the other amber with blue - the merling gene is strong in her, probably part of the reason she was chosen for breeding...

Bev, I was thinking the same thing, and I looked & looked last night, to no avail.

The closest thing I came up with was UConn & its husky, back when UConn was simply called "Connecticut". (Their husky logo changes regularly!) Still, I found nothing similar to Cheryl's item for that school...
