I recently acquired 4 paintings of Aivazovsky. One of the painting is not signed but it looks like definite hand of Aivazovsky. Is there an expert that could definitely tell if this is his hand? Also the other painting are dirty and need to be cleaned. IMG_0035.jpg IMG_0041.jpg

There’s a sizable auction house in Pittsfield, I’d start with them, they’ll know all the local talent.

Genuine Aivozovsky paintings can sell for several hundred thousand dollars each. Best to contact Sotheby’s or Christie’s and have them do the heavy lifting.

I could be wrong, but I believe if you can get sharp enough images as well as close-ups of the signature/s, that both Sotheby's and Christie's will do online appraisals... as they stand to benefit if they get to handle the sale......of course they would want to also authenticate it/them before the auction as well!!!! Best of luck!!!!

Hi Guys, thanks for all the inputs.

I just brought this painting for restoration and the guy found a signature on this painting. I can read something like "Gudin" but I could be wrong. IMG_0117.jpg
Wow, I didn't even notice that its a paddlewheeler. Thank you.

Skinner's Auction has a location in Marlborough which would be a lot closer than Boston.

It bears repeating that if there are any genuine Aivozovsky paintings in the group it would be a serious mistake to sell through the satellite location of a regional auction house.

I thought they gave that up in favor of the Boston location...

I brightened up the signature, and that's ALL I did to it!! Looks to me like either an E or an F, then G or C UDIN....then what looks like two separate letters "ui", but not completely sure.....there could be more under the frame???? Maybe you all can pick it apart!!!:):) BTW, @Transiberian, I think your painting is WONDERFUL!!!!!

By the way, again, there is always the Worcester Art Museum to consider for an appraisal as well!!!
