Does anyone know anything bout this painting I've had for years...

 

It's a lovely mountain setting...cept for the religious over tones & over the top depictions.
Can u provide the information u know to be true..??

I hate guessing games !

 

My guess is that it is set in the Dolomites, a mountain range in northern Italy, just south of the Alps. The mountains are very steep with sharp, serrated peaks, and there are often crucifixes in passes as a symbol of protection. This is a general custom along important mountain routes in Roman Catholic regions of Europe.

 

I'd rather see a proper pic of the siggy. but the Dolomites are certainly a good guess

We're in the southeast of the country, higher up than Holland, so at least a thousand years to go before we get to be a seaside resort. I'll send you a postcard from our personal sunny beach when we do.

I like that song, sent a copy to my brother in Scotland at the time. I just noticed something that looks like a prototype of one of Theo Jansen's 'Strandbeests' in the video. They are now being studied by Nasa btw.

but back to the painting. from the Jesus and especially the typical roof it might as well be on a pilgrimage road somewhere in Austria.

 

I think it's a roadside shrine in the mountains and I'll go with whatever others suggested for locale.

 

To me the roadside looks to only go towards one home with a shed....so I'll call it a Driveway.....with a huge life size 'No Trespassing' Sign.......!!
