This is a great forum. We purchased a condo that included a few antiques (or at least they appear to be antiques to us), but they aren't our taste or style. Does anyone have any ideas about this cabinet as far as origin, value, how can we sell it etc.?

I hope nobody minds, but I'm going to post a couple more threads with a chandelier, a trunk and a mirror since I couldn't upload all the pictures in one thread. Sorry for the duplicate pictures.

    Thank you! 20200524_105053.jpg 20200524_105128.jpg 20200524_105204.jpg

Welcome, Joey. We prefer to have different items in separate threads. You still have time to edit this post to remove the duplicate pix. We very much appreciate that you posted them full size.

    I don't do furniture. @James Conrad

A photo of the back plus the hardware would help get some answers for you :)

Thank you. I will have to post them in a couple weeks since I'm not in the same state as the cabinet now and it's a bit heavy. Either way, there is very little visible hardware.

Knee jerk it looks maybe Mexican ? Someone should be shot for that ghastly paint job !

I was also thinking Mexican and newer.

How you sell it will depend on where you are.
If you have a Facebook Marketplace, that might be your best bet.

    As for what it is.
I think it is made of old furniture pieces. Made to look old and rustic.

I don't know if it is Mexican. Maybe @Ghopper1924 @verybrad might know.

I don't like the way the hinges were put on. An old piece would have been better made.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I'd throw @blooey in the mix as well.....you 'might' find this isn't in 'James' wheelhouse....but I wouldn't count my chickens on that either!!!

Could be Mexican but just doesn't seem quite right for them. Maybe India or Indonesia. Agree that it is a newer import piece wherever it is from.

Yeah, I am goin with all the above comments.
Not antique, crudely built and the paint decoration doesn't help.
One oddity is the 4 stiles, they stick up above the crown molding on the cabinet top, not sure if that is a fashion statement or they just forgot to cut them off?
OTOH, it does offer good storage, a new paint job would help.

Thinking SE Asian of some sort, shabby chic so crudeness is expected. Not antique. Worth what you pay for it. Good storage, like James said.

I'd lean toward the east too because of the faux bamboo motif.

Madura, Indonesia.:shame: Probably second half of the 20th century, maybe earlier.
I swear, some of those furniture makers must have been colourblind.:wideyed: I also think they used paint left over from their boats. Madurese were always a maritime people. They probably tried to avoid coming home to furniture like this.:hilarious:

In their defense, the Madurese are also known for stunningly beautiful furniture, with the most detailed and perfect woodcarving you've ever seen.

Color wouldn't work in my home, but this is exactly the kind of thing that would quickly find a buyer where I live. Deliberately distressed looking, bold color paint.

If this was at my local thrift store, it would not last the day.

Not in Florida unfortunately. We have (or had) a lot of university students where I live and this kind of thing goes quickly.

Maybe post on Craigslist free if you just want it gone.
