My wife and I have entered the lottery for tix and provided an item for them to review. I will share the item if we get picked.

Been to the USA version 3 times. First time was a nightmare. We got there about 9:00 and stood online, finally saw appraisers around 4:00. No place to sit, no food, just hours of standing online.

Some appraisers are nice, some not so much. The first time, by 4:00 they were cranky. Yet they got to sit down and I'm sure they got to have lunch. Being cranky at us after standing online for 7 hours they could have been nicer.

They seemed to learn from that and now issue timed tickets. Once they did that is was very easy. Show up 15 minutes before your ticket time and easy peasy.

I've attended both the British and American Roadshows (in Toronto) but wasn't filmed. People I was working with at the time said they saw me in a crowd shot, but that's it.

I was a volunteer at the Pottery and Porcelain table when the Roadshow came to my city in 2014.
I couldn't get tickets, so I called my local PBS station and signed up to volunteer.
I held the line back, and ushered people and their items up to the table to speak to the appraisers.
    It was so thrilling!
I met so many of the appraisers, and got my picture with several of them, including the Keno brothers.

Crud! I remember that jewelry! The thief had good taste, unfortunately. I've been, back when you had to stand around forever, but they've improved things since then. I did watch someone who hits local tag sales getting something appraised on the Sturbridge Village show a few weeks ago. Let's just say impressions of the guests can be deceiving. (as in the heck she didn't know what it was worth when she bought it. Bet she beat the seller down about 50% too.)

I attended AR when they were nearby. I applied for but didn't win tickets, however a co-worker did win but couldn't make it on the day so he gave them to me. They were timed tickets but we still stood in line for two hours just to get on the appraisal floor. Then it was relatively short times in line at each of the three different appraisal tables we needed to visit. (Each person is allowed to bring three items.)
One of the items I brought was a set of Widdicomb Robsjohn Gibbings nesting tables so I stood in line at the Furniture section for some time (which had the longest line of all the areas). It was random as to which appraiser would be ready when it was your turn... I lucked out and got the Keno brothers!
    Sadly, I wasn't filmed.

No, but i needed a painting restoring once, so got in contact with the bbc's repair shop

told them that my grandad hid it in his trousers through the whole of the blitz, through fear of bomb damage

they never even got back to me :playful:

Well that really sucks. Did it seem like the thief knew to steal from her because she was featured on the show, or was it random?

I attended the first ever ARS in the US. It was held in the town we were living in, Concord, MA. At that point the show had never been on TV, so there were no crowds. They did most of their filming early in the morning before I got there. I was not filmed, though a couple of my neighbors I knew were.

I walked over with a couple chairs and there was no line at all. When leaving they said they they would be there another couple hours so to come back. And I did, with Japanese prints my dad brought back from occupied Japan. Looking back I should have done a better job of picking stuff to take, but i just grabbed a few things without much thought. It was really pretty low-key back then, though that changed as soon as it started airing on TV.

LOL yes. foreign to you! :hilarious:. Here are screen shots of the jewelry and art by Loloma.

As I recall, her nicer things were in a safe in their home and the whole safe was stolen. I think they suspected it could have been someone that had done work in the house but I don't think anyone was ever caught and nothing recovered that I know of.

I'm not completely sure of the timing but I think was just before or just after the show was aired.

That bracelet is so distinctive. It would be hard to wear it without getting recognized. Maybe at some point it will turn up. Such a bummer it was stolen.

I went to AR in 2009. I've always been a huge fan, we tried to get tickets in the lottery but didn't get them and I was crushed. But then a friend found someone selling tickets on Craigslist, and we decided to get them. (That was a whole underground scene... people signing up in the AR lottery for the free tickets in order to sell them. Not sure if that is still happening.)

We had timed entrance late morning and it was pretty entertaining as I recall. Just checking out what other people brought as we were waiting to be seen, etc.

My friend had brought this huge rug for appraisal, and all I remember was we were waiting to take the elevator up with it and when the elevator opened someone was in there with a coffin they brought to get appraised!

Barry Weber (RIP) appraised some jewelry I brought and he was so kind and lovely and really took time admiring the pieces and telling me about them.

I don't know how they run it now. If you go, it's a definite commitment of several hours.
