I found this Friday at a local estate sale.I looked up the artist & found Ostermann but no F.X. Ostermann - anyone heard of him/her?
    Any thoughts on the painting?
    Thank you all!

I did find a Francis Xavier Ostermann (d. 1975) who lived in Clarkstown, NY for the last 35 years of his life. No children, but siblings with children who ended up in Florida (Tampa Bay area).

Sadly no mention of painting in his obit. He was a gardener then Church Cemetery Superintendent (groundskeeper) for 35 years.

Obviously, no real info that this is your guy, but best I've found.

I think "folk art" is a good descriptor. I would think artist was untrained (evidenced by the ramp-from-nowhere that the cows are descending) but painting not without appeal.

I thought "simple" but I liked it for some reason.

I think it has a certain amount of charm... not a huge fan of the frame, but people see things in frames that I never understand. :p
