Anyone know what this glass pot is for

    Found this interest glass pot at a 2nd hand store. It is about 7 inches in diameter. There is a hooked wire inside that is attached to the finial of the cap. It is has a spring so that the finial pops back up when you stop depressing it. I cannot seem to figure it out what it was used for. Any ideas from the forum? Thank you

    looks like the finial releves pressure...maybe missing a part....

    Looks like a kerosene jar.

    Probably a knob or something because it does turn even when not pushed down.
