I am restoring this for a friend for a 60th birthday. She says it was in her grandparent's house for as long as she can remember. I added pictures which a golf club to show that it is actually quite small. Thoughts are it could be a jewelry box but the insides have no cushioning. It may be home made. @Cheri just curious, how are you going to deal with that front corner and the top corner of the drawer where the wood is missing? I would have no clue what to do!

Looks like a fun project and it's very nice of you to take it on for a friend's birthday :)

Good question. I had been taking a class in furniture restoration where you bring pieces in and an instructor can help you with things you have not done before. I know one method is to find a like piece of wood and glue it onto that corner. Use wood filler if there are any imperfections left. Or use wood filler completely. Since I will be stripping it and restaining it, the missing pieces of wood should will hopefully not be as obvious. I have never done this so it will be a learning experience

I would either carve a piece of wood to fit or cut the breaks square to fit and glue in a piece of wood. Any type of putty repair will stick out like a sore thumb.

I did the initial refinishing on the doll dresser and this is the result. My friend's husband is good with wood so I am going to talk to him about patching the wood. If he can do it, I will stain work with them to stain it to match the rest of the dresser. dolldresser2.jpeg
