Got this floral spray wall decoration with a hand written label
on the back that says “Christabel” and also possible indication of
a diamond sticker since lost. I can't find a reference to Christabel
and I'm debating the age of it. The green almost suggests late 19th
but the possible sticker suggests 1930s to 60s. This Christabel rings
a bell somewhere but I can't pick it. Then again it could easily be some
of this “cold porcelain” artwork I'm seeing on the web.
    Any ideas??

Think I might have partly solved the mystery. This thing is shaped like a cross and there is a large market for memorial ceramic flowers including cross shaped ones for placement on graves. Apparently they were very popular in the Victorian times and still are although I haven't found a modern one with as much super fine detail as this one. Early last century?? Maybe.

Can't help, but there is quite a bit of detail. The rose petals are amazing -- all in porcelain. Just beautiful.

Those little forget me nots are often found on German and Japan ceramics.
If you are thinking Victorian, then German most likely. The Japanese items were later.

    Very pretty.

If it's as old as you think, I find it hard to believe a porcelain piece as detailed and thin as this one has lasted so many years without damages!

It looks very clean too. Stored nicely I suppose.

Thanks for showing me. It's a lovely piece. Does it feel like porcelain?

From this back shot, it looks like some spray paint was used? Or is that the "grain" of the bisque porcelain?

I ask about this because I have no idea how this sort of beautiful thinly made porcelain piece can hang together without being damaged through the years?

It looks like there are many funeral flowers like this. If it was used for a burial ceremony only, the family of Christabel May have taken it home and kept it safe as a memorial.
They seemed widely used in France, but that just might be a coincidence.

Feels like and pings like bisque and looks like hand painted bisque including the back. I'm amazed at the way the leaves have been individually shaded with a yellowing towards the ends some of which have dead sections of leaf. This is something I don't think I have seen before in a ceramic floral piece.

I'd buy that. Think I'll go for mid 20th century France as a description for re-sale. Don't think they did as detailed an effort much later than that.

Alas no. That turns out to be part of a break repair. There is one on the top twisted vine as well. Turns out it is not quite as flawless after all.

Little bits of damage are usually considered acceptable on items this old, delicate, and ornate. It is quite beautiful. It could be more of an Easter item than a grave decoration or perhaps something for holy water.

The white label of Christabel looks like the edge of a postage stamp.

@kyratango Can you tell us please, is this a French tradition of some sort for cemeteries. I’ve not seen this anywhere else. Thank you! :)

I'm pretty sure it is a holy water font :) is the rose deep enought to be the receptacle for holy water?

these images are from pinterest, no more infos available...:bored:

This is the kind of first communion gift perfect for a girl :joyful:
No indication for the era... It could be somewhere between 1890's to 1930's
Religion pieces were no more "in fashion" later, gifts were then rather a medal or a watch than a bible/missel:facepalm:
Dating the first name Christabel could give an idea...

Absolutely! Some graves are covered with these:

But nothing in bisque, which would not be frost resistant!
