Anyone know what this means or says.

It's a panel on a piece of furniture, all the furniture in the house is of a similar style and looks Moorish too me.
The deceased was a Polish / German Jewish guy.

The location of the panel is indicated in the 3rd pic.

I tried Translate again and it came up with: "In the heart of the Lord"
    في حفظ الدين

Not helpful at all, and the graphic of the writing on the piece probably altered things. Need a person who can decipher.

Lots of Arabic items, lamps, brassware, furniture, shisha or hookah pipes, but also lots of Jewish stuff particularly books in German.

    Thanks for your help, guys.
I don't know yet if I have the job to clear the property, but there is certainly some interesting stuff amongst the junk and waste.

...besides the full vodka bottles. I saw some interesting bits in there. The books might even come good.

    It says: في حفظ اللسان

    fii hifdh al-lisaan

It's a phrase, literally means "in guarding the tongue" - to speak good things, avoid gossip/backbiting, etc. To me, it feels like it's missing an additional piece.. like maybe there's another display case that it would have been placed next to that had the first part of a saying on it, like "Success lies ... in guarding the tongue" or something.

You can read more about "guarding the tongue" in the Islamic context here.

It's also all over the Christian New Testament. The tongue is said repeatedly to do more damage than any other part of the human body. It's not wrong.
