something i picked at the boot for a coupla nuggets. got a lovely well made look to it
but when i see these types (not ever had) theres something a bit tacky looking about them, so i've a bit doubtful, but sure does look like it

there are other examples online stating jade, but i aint relying on them

also think i might be missing something, looks a bit like the base part should fit into something ?

    any thoughts of info appreciated

yeah, i get a home decor feeling about them as well. but they do seem to vary in quality etc, i'd be more than happy if the jade is real though

looks quite similar to mine, don't agree with the age given though ;)

yep, the descent ones are very pricey, and the cheap ones, well................ and theres no way even a decent one could tell if the jade was dyed or not

The green is nephrite jade imo, the orangey brown carnelian as holly said. The turquoise chips could be real turquoise, difficult to see though. These stones are all traditional favourites of the Chinese.
The base looks like serpentine to me.

I remember these from the 60s and 70s, and know they were around in the 50s too. I was fascinated by them as a child.;)

good news, thanks Aj, it is nicely made even down to the way the branches are coiled

i wonder if the base is just supposed to fit into your own soil pot etc for show

Not that, but I do remember they used to sit in ceramic pots. That is probably why there is such a wide flange-like rim on the jade part of the base.

I bet there are some jade trees for sale in Chinatown here as I write. Some are very elaborate and I, too, remember thinking they were cool when I was a kid. I like that yours is not "over-loaded" with flowers. Charming!
