Featured art nouveau style ? gilt and enamel buckle

hi

can anyone give me any info on this buckle

it is marked gilt and metal on the back

wee bit of damage where the pieces have clashed i guess

wondering what kind of age it has

It is gorgeous, Charlie, beautiful design and colours.
I think you're right about Art Nouveau. The later years of the period, early 20th century.
A bit of enamel loss is not a disaster. Besides, our kyratango has a solution for that. Just enter kyratise in the search box, and you will find examples of her restoration work on enamel.

do you think the damage will affect it badly ?

 

Results in a quick search produced a few that are somewhat similar, all described as art nouveau. Love the colors of this one.

Damage or no damage, a buckle collector would POUNCE on this.

 

It will affect it, but not badly. I would buy it for a nice price if I still wore belts, I would probably do a reversible repair on it.

just out of curiousity what kind of belt did women wear with a buckle like this ?

 

Think British nurse's belt, that style, but with a much prettier dress or skirt.

It is!! But I'm not sure I would get away with wearing the belt buckle, but it is lovely.

 

Absoutely not forget me nots, the leaves are totally wrong. it's a native geranium. If you google on Geranium Johnson's Blue, that's pretty similar. Cranesbill if you want a common name.
