I'm trying to identify the mark on this art pottery vase. It is matte green and just over 10 inches high. I think the maker mark is the symbol similar to an S over on the right side. Does anyone recognize it? Thanks! ... Dave

Could you have the mark upside down?
CS maybe - don't know who that would be sorry.

I don't know the maker, but did just see an old Antiques Roadshow where a vase with a similar glaze was discussed.

The specialist said that green glazes similar to your vase were popular during the transition period from Arts & Crafts to Art Nouveau, and that many makers used them.

Very possibly -- I'll post a pic of it in the other orientation.

Hm. I've seen that somewhere, it's annoyingly familiar.

It resembles the very earliest Carter Stabler and Adams mark. It's also similar to a modern potter called Susie Carr, but I think this is no later than the 1920s.

The HD may be a clue, too.

That piece even has the other mark, the one on the other side, which has the number with it (which I think is the size). Mine has "10" and is just over 10 inches high.

The DH is for Dean Hudgins, the artist.

I'd forgotten and lost track of this thread. I'm so glad to see the pottery got ID'ed. Good info to have in the archive!
