IMG_4533.jpeg IMG_4532.jpeg Hi all,I was considering buying this painting. It’s maybe a bit naively painted but I like it. Amateur artist? Not very big on still life paintings. Is this expressionism? The frame size is maybe 60cmx50. The simple wooden frame dates from around the 60’s or so (I think) What do you all think of it? Thanks

Naively painted as you say. But has a certain charm. No, I wouldn't call it Expressionist. This is Expressionist.

There was an older stamp from the framer. But unfortunately I didn’t take a photo.

I would say amateur and agree it is not Expressionist. Art movements are not just the visual aspect, but the time period and intention behind the style.

This one is not for me. The composition is lacking, everything is medium tone and washed out, the eye is led all over the place, and I'm not sure how intentional the abstraction is as it appears in some areas (like the plates) but not in other areas where it looks like the artist was trying to render accurately.

The great thing about art is it is subjective though! If you love it and it speaks to you then that is the singular thing that matters. I have absolutely picked up some amateur stuff at the thrift because it spoke to me. :D
