Featured Asian Brand, Single Character: Can Anyone Read It?

    The top image is, I think, upside down...the next seems to be correct, and so both of the burnt wood pics follow that orientation.

    The brand is cast-iron, welded to a steel ~.180" diameter rod; the circle is ~1 inch in diameter. The tool doesn't appear to be very old.

    I would appreciate confirmation of the correct orientation, as well as a translation of the Japanese (Chinese?) character.

    That's what I'm quickly finding out.

    Btw, I don't actually read Japanese/Chinese, but I do fairly well with Thai/Lao if anyone has a use for that.

    It'll come in handy sooner or later! Once you get out of western Europe I at least get pretty lost.
