Here's a 13 3/8" Asian charger I just picked up.Can't tell you much more than that other than IMHO it seems newer, and I'd guess Japanese,Chinese or Korean.
    All opinions welcome-Thanks !

Thanks Chin-I didn't see tons of age, but even if modern (for the price) I have to admire the painter's skill.Yep, a traditional mark/signature made by ?

Some older Japanese stuff can look quite clean. Doesn't have to have lumps of ash from the kiln stuck to the foot rim to make in antique ya know.

It's a well known mark. I've seen it crop up a few times.

Whoa-Thanks for the tip ! That mark does look similar, even though your ref piece looks older. If this piece turns out to be an old piece of Edo (this clean)-I'll will be doing two 'happy dances' today !
PS-Yep,I do associate ash and kiln crud with old, but there's all ranges of quality thru the ages.

Just been through gothburg but can't find it. There is a similar arita ware one but not the same.

Might even be a kangxi mark. A lot of similar ones... I'll leave it to the eggspurts

I'll compare kangxi and arita marks-good leads.

nice piece bosk, definetly has some good age to it 19th or even a bit earlier

i wanna say japanese, as the borders strikes me as, so does the colour

but the mark is confusing me as i've seen it on chinese qianlong pieces

sort of pseudo looking marks, both yours and the one cs posted. they look like their not to mean anything

Definitely odd,and as w/ all Asian Ceramics-my antennae are always on high alert for their masterfully-created phonies.
PS-Thanks for the FB mate. Either way-We like it a lot, and it could be a keeper providing it wasn't worth too much.
PSS-95% of the rendering's done in line work, very little 'wash' (like watercolor) in the image.Might that give us a poss Country of Origin ?

Japanese...'fuku' mark. I'd guess around 1900 or thereabouts. I like it!

Thanks all for the insights !
According to Gotheborg- Arita and Kutani are often marked Fuku, in the past & today-but Fuku marks seem common.
Now I have to find an artist whose work's almost exclusively Linear. There's very little toning or wash in this rendering-which seems unique in larger pieces. Most of the line drawing I see are the geometric blue & white designs on smaller utilitarian ware (bowls, saucers, etc).
    PS-Thanks much for the dating.

    That's a great piece @bosko69
I would agree with others late 19th or early 20th century.
More of a representation of Arita style than Kutani I would say imho.

Despite being tagged, Asian ceramics are out of my wheelhouse. Certainly an attractive piece and I would have bought it if the price were right. Not knowing much, even I can see this is different than the majority of the Asian wares we see out in the marketplace.
