Asian Papier Mache Lacquered Boxes

    Trying to find any info on age and origin. There is a paper label on one of the boxes but not sure if in Japanese or Chinese.
    Any thoughts?

    By the way, what would you call the pattern? Turtle shell comes on my mind but it is not quite like...
