    C. 1900 French ink stand or Standish, Japonaise was all the rage at the time.

Another thank you from me. That's a new word for me.

Wonderful ink stand, standish! Here's a 19th century French bronze and enamel "standish" adorned with bronze cherubs that is earlier than yours. Like af said "C. 1900" for yours. To me yours has an Aesthetic Movement (late 19th century to turn of the century) flavor. The Aesthetic Movement was influenced by Japanese art and used motifs of nature: birds and flora.

You are also welcome to 'purdonium' (a coal bucket), canterbury (music rack) tantalus (decanter set in box) bonheur de jour (small desk) and Clepsydra (water clock)

An unfamiliar name adds at least 25% to the value of any antique, and 50 % to the price. Score 5% extra for any obscure technical terms that can be stuffed into the description, 10% if you can do them in Japanese.

No price tags = +20% (money is just too vulgar for you and I to discuss)

    Printed price tag = par.

Hand written price tag = -20%
Ditto with reductions overwritten = -25% on lowest price showing.

Sun faded price tag = -30%

Price tag with 2 or 3 cryptic letters = old school dealer. If you can work out which ten letter word they are using as a substitution cypher for the numbers representing what they paid for the item you are well placed to haggle. Try Volkswagen. With enough tags to look at the nimble crossword solving mind should crack any simple letter code quite quickly.
