Any clue who the artist might be?
52x37 . Only info on the back is paddock deauville and an old price tag for $2250.--

 

Would you be kind enough to post a photograph of the entire back along with a close-up of the price tag and any other stickers or markings?

I was trying to avoid taking it apart...

 

I think the suggestion was to take a photo of the back of the frame as is, no need to take it apart. Also of the price tag and any other stickers or markings as suggested.

Since you'll have the camera out, maybe try a few more shots of the signature. Sometimes a different angle, different lighting can give someone a clue.

Hmmmm. Yeah. Even I knew that one. LOL

 

Is that an envelope taped onto the back? If so, the cellophane tape looks pretty dried out and brittle, maybe it could be gently removed and a clue found inside the envelope.

 

It might have been at one time, but now it's just a scrap. I'm at work now but will fill you helpful people in on the 411 of my situation later.

 

Could the last name be Rau ? Or Bau? Love the colors.

 

So I work at a thrift store, which is about to open an eBay store. ( Proceeds are used for drug and alcohol rehab, as well as a shelter. )

One of the people I work with found this piece, and is convinced it's Dufy. The signature is totally wrong, of course.

I think it's still worth something (It's really nice in person, love the colors...) But of course, no idea who the artist is. I may try to take it out of the frame later to see if there is any further info.

it's obviously - or not - showing the paddock at the racecourse in Deauville (Normandy, France). very well known by both the French an English betters and upper-classes.
so, might be an English artist, too.
