I guess not a professional painter as I found only his obituary and no other art for sale.

 

He may not be "known" but I think its a lovely painting by a gifted amateur.

 

I like it too. Nicely painted, the painting style is very Australian.
It is a part of Australia I know well, a salt water lagoon just south of Newcastle on the east coast of Australia.

Not really, I've never been to Africa.
Or Antarctica, but that's too cold anyway
I used to live in Sydney, Australia. Lake Macquarie was to the north, so we would pass it on our way to Newcastle, or further north to Queensland.
