    Hie,
I got 6 of these Baccarat gilt drinking glasses.

I googled it and the prices are crazy. Why?
How old are they? I'm guessing from the 50s/60s?

    Thanks both of you

Not for Baccarat; it's pricey. I don't buy glasses I can't put in the dishwasher. :)

Does anyone know how old they are?
According to mom they were a wedding gift for my grandparents so I'm guessing 50s/60s. They are both dead so we have no idea :/

Matt, this doesn't suggest the age of YOUR glasses, but it gives you a bit of info about them:

The Harcourt Empire glass revisits the Harcourt’s regal architectural form. The Harcourt collection, created in 1841, is the oldest in the Baccarat archive.

Reputed for its iconic design, Harcourt stemware has been used by historical icons throughout the ages. The Harcourt Empire glass shares the same structural outline as the Harcourt glass, but adorned with exquisite golden embellishment. The flat cut pattern of the bowl has golden decorative shapes applied with a light hand, and a gilded rim. The geometric beveled stem remains classical, while the hexagonal foot is gold-trimmed around its perimeter. The glass sparkles both with lucid crystal and graceful gold. The Harcourt Empire collection also includes a champagne flute and highball. Baccarat’s Rivoli stemware collection has gilded features as well.

According to Replacements Ltd. age is 1825 - ?

    https://www.replacements.com/crystal-baccarat-empire/c/4127

It does seem insane for someone to pay that kind of money for a single piece but there are people who have the money & would love to own a piece of Baccarat crystal.

I have sold single dinner plates for that kind of money & I am here to tell you that if I was ever crazy enough to do something like that people would have to eat with their fingers because if I did ever use them I would never let any type of utensil near them.:eek::eek: :p :hilarious::hilarious:

They likely kept making this pattern for many years & quite frankly I wonder if that is an error. This site says the pattern dates to 1841.

This page says it is "This pattern is in use at Castle Gandolfo, the Pope's summer residence." :wideyed::wideyed::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I just know I would not be too sad if I could stumble onto a set of this stemware. ;):p:playful::playful::playful:

Yes there are two types, one plain called 'Harcourt' and one that looks the same just with gilded motifs called 'Harcourt Empire'.
Supposedly both designs were created in 1841.

Now you know what to look for! Good luck haha

My all purpose stemware cost a buck a stem at a local job lot, back in the 90s. (LOL) For all I drink, that's good enough.
