    Hi,
I have this military pin with a defect which I need help in finding the correct words to describe. The pin was cut wrong - my guess is that the design was embossed on a metal sheet, and the pins were than cut. This pin has extra material on top and the inscription in the bottom is cut through. How would you describe that? Defect in...? Damage?
    Thanks :)
Edit: sorry for the funny title. Too late to correct though.

Yes it is clear. It is not damage, but I can't recollect the right term. Memory.
    Someone else will.

I use the term "Manufacturing Defect" and then proceed to explain it as succinctly as possible, along with appropriate photographs of course.

I would call it a "mis-feed" in the stamping process....my father and brothers would have been all over that, except they dealt in tiny semi-conductor parts!!!!

The goofy part is it's in Hebrew script. If it were a coin they'd call it a mis-strike.

That is why in titles, etc. I use the Defect term - everyone recognizes the word defect and most (!) are smart enough to recognize the difference between a defect and damage. Then in the description I use more appropriate/technical terms such as mis-strike, miss-feed (NOT Messi-Feed), badly struck, etc.

I can't read what it says. If it has a Hebrew letter, why do you think it's military?

I don't read Hebrew much if at all. and part of it is missing. The writing across the banner is in Hebrew too. Beyond that, dunno.

It's a pin used by the (sort-of-ex) military organization Herut (freedom), active around the 1948 Israeli declaration of Independence.

Well, I know what is says (Lenizhon haherut - to the victory of freedom), I know what it means, it's already priced. What I need to know is how to describe the condition :)

I think mis-struck or off-struck would state it best though mis is the most proper methinks. :)
